Does anyone think it would be a problem to have a fuge with no baffles? I do not plan on running a ton of GPH through it. The reason I ask is I was going to use a 29g but only a 20g long will allow my skimmer in and out. I have 80 lbs of Sand for a 20L!! If I split it into 3 chambers I will have a pretty small area for sand, and it will be short. My skimmer produces hardly any bubbles at all.
Also, my skimmer is a HOB so it could stay on the display tank if that sounds like a better idea.
Your thoughts?

If you're going to have chaeto or other macroalgae in the fuge, you'll at lest want a piece of eggcrate or something to keep stuff from getting sucked into the pump. If you're doing a sandbed or anything in hte fuge, you'll need some sort of baffle or short wall to keep it contained and away from the pump. If you can manage it without putting a ton of microbubbles into the tank, and you can take care of the above issues, there's no reason it shouldn't work that I can think of.

One area for return pump should not be a problem. I am just trying to max out the DSB area and my skimmer would eat up 8-10 inches. I will be doing DIY EPDM baffles so nothing will be carved in stone.
Perhaps a combo of your ideas....A wall just a couple inches above DSB level and eggcrate up against it adding a bit more height to contain macro.
If this is what I go with would you leave the skimmer on the main tank? Thinking of pods of course.

Here is my first effort. I used one solid baffle and another with tons of holes, half way up, to act as the egg crate that was mentioned. As of right now it has a PH inside just moving water around like a closed loop. Tomorrow I should get the rest of the plumbing items needed to install the return pump and make it function. :headbang2:

I had to modify my stand to get anything over a 10 gallon inside. I knocked out the rear support and built a frame around the tank to take the weight.

Here are some pics. I probably should have turned off some lights so you could see better.
