hey guys, i just got back from a camping trip to PA. on some of my many adventures there i found some very interesting mosses that seemed to have very similar habitats to my plaud. i collected them, as there was plenty there, and took em' home. i stuck lots of it onto the wall of my plaud and it looks great. i do have some leftover tho that are unplantable b/c they fell apart or other things. what i was thinking was that i could use that moss/buttermilk in the blender thing and just paint it into the empty areas. i just want to know what the best formula for this is? and and other advice u might have.
thx,

I wouldn't use that formula in a tank, I would think it would be too much nutrients and cause a bloom of nasty stuff. Your lucky your local mosses match your tanks temperatues, the mosses I found locally I have discovered start to die off once the temps stay consistently in the high 70's-80s. This is their normal behavior due to the fact that they are found at mid-high elevations

I agree, the buttermilk/beer method might get pretty funky in an enclosed space. In any case, it only works if the moss has mature spores (these are born in the capsule-like sporangia on the long brown sporophyte stems that rise between the green gametophytes).

You're likely to get some interesting bacteria and fungi growing for a while before the mosses get established (along with their even more interesting aromas).
you could blend up the bits of moss with water and paint that on, that way you get the moss without the horrid mess.
you could mist it with old fish tank water to get it to grow faster too.
