Ok, i have read that healthy plants will help prevent algae. Well what do you know! i have algae!

My camera isn't working but when it is i will get some pictures

stock

1 male betta
2 female bettas
2 applesnails

(they don't fight)

i have

2 cryptocryne
1 crispus
1 baby java fern (from my adult plant)

I noticed some of the leaves of the crispus dieing and i said i would remove them tomorrow. Well that next day i was over my cousins, and when i go home the sides of my tank were green and my plants had fuzz on them.

So i took out my plants and fish and rocks too, and gave the sand a really good mix (to get the poop at the bottom, there was alot on top) and put down some new natural colored stone (i washed it 2 times) ontop of the sand.

Now everything is back in and i did a 20% water change too.

Now to prevent this from happening again, how do i get my plants happier? I mean they are growing (especially my cryptocryne) but i am tired of algae.

Once in a while i dose some flourish excel and other times i dose some kent freshwater stuff.

Any help?

ok what is the set up of you're tank. usually when i tank gets algae it means there an imbalance of lighting to nutrients to CO2. also what size tank is it that actually does not sound like alot of plants for many tank.

it is a ten gallon - i wanted minimal plants that would grow in and i only have a ph test kit and that is neutral

Aside from having an imbalanced nutrient level, you have slow growing plants. You may want to get some stem plants to assist the algae problem. Hornwort works perfect for nutrient sucking and draining the algae's food supply.

Increase the dosage of excel. It should help :-)

The hornwort suggestion is a good one, as is wisteria. Both are fast growing nutrient suckers. But... depending on light and nutrients in the tank, you're still going to have an algae problem. I know: I'm going through it right now. :angryfire:

The key is to find the right balance between light, CO2, and nutrients. :read:

i am pretty sure i have 2.8 - 3 wpg

and by chance are any of those plants from asia? I am keeping an all around asia tank.

thanks
