Hey Corax, how have things been with the green hair algae? Is the phos-zorb still providing positive results? My QT is showing incredible results; the diatom bloom has cleared up almost 100%. My show tank is also progressing nicely. The hair algae seems to be exhausting it's remaining food supply quickly.
On another note, does anyone know where I can get some decent sized blue-legged hermits? The biggest my LFS has to offer are about 1/4 inch in size. Most online dealers have "dwarf" blue legged hermits. I know that blues can get big, and I could really use a couple of large ones, I just can't find any. I would like a couple in the 1" size range.
From time to time Mike at www.emarinefish.com has larger blue legs, but I don't know about that large. Drop him an email and I'm sure if he doesn't have any currently he can get them special ordered for you.

We have gotten blue legs from a couple of different sources, and although they are tiny when we get them they grow rapidly. Our 1/2 inch originals are now well over an inch and a half now (six months) We bought 100 in July to split between our 46 and our 75. All of those were very small and are now almost an inch. Perhaps quantity is as important as size. we aimed for 2 crabs per gallon. So far (the noise you hear is me knocking wood) our algae problem has been mostly controlled by these critters.
Nope, the green plague seems to be returning. Not discouraged yet though, it might take some time.
One thing I did learn once I started considering phosphate as a source of my problems is that high phosphates can cause a calc crash like the one I had a few months back. Hopefully, once I get the phosphates wiped out, the calc I've been dosing will actually make a difference in the tank.

Sorry to hear that the green plague is continuing, Corax. I don't know if this is a feasible idea for you, but my sea urchin is literally destroying the stuff. I paid $10.99 for him, and he mows this stuff down overnight. He even gets on the glass. So far he has cleaned one entire rock, half of the back wall, and the entirety of the dead coral. I don't know about compatability issues, though.
Anyway, thanks for the input Guy and g. My current blue legged hermits are growing nicely, but they are still very small. My LFS has a beautiful reef tank set up in the front of the store that has three of the biggest blue legged hermits I have ever seen. I tried to convince them to sell them to me, but to no avail. I guess I will just get a few more (I only have two) and let them grow.
Anyone know how long hermit crabs live?

Doesnt Calcium Hydroxide precipitate phosphates? Or at least help with it?
