Heres the deal, my oscar is losing colour in its fins!! the colour loss is at the edge of the tail and the top fin... is this bad? should i do something about it? or is it just normal.....?

i dont know much about oscars but
what are you water change schedules and tank parameters? What size tank, filter, etc?

Just a guess...but it sounds like what you are describing is the start of fin rot. Are the edges of the fins frayed?

I just had a conversation with the lady at the LFS last week about getting good color in oscars (because she has a large one there on display that is simply gorgeous). She said the secret is feeding them shrimp. If it isn't a disease and is simply poor coloring you may want to find out a good amount of shrimp to feed your oscar (someone here would probably know).

I agree with Mojo, but I am also interested in hearing the answers to Tightdog's questions. Definitely start with a good-sized water change (say 30%) and filter cleaning (remembering to rinse the media in water drawn from the tank so that you do not kill off the nitrifying bacteria), just in case the problem started with poor water quality.
