Rainwater harvesting systems

I am very interested in the rain water collection system which is an environment friendly design application.
I am in my thesis year right now, and would like to know more about these systems.

I too would like to use rain water in my tanks but I am just not for sure about just sitting a bucket in the rain.

rain absorbs many pollutants from the atmosphere and wouldnt be safe for a tank imo. i would at least filter the rainwater with carbon first.

I collect my rainwater using 55g drums. I have a spigot on the bottom attached to a hose. I don't use it for my tanks, but use it for my gardens, as well as my tank water. I have it so its tied into the gutter so any overflow goes back into the gutter system instead of puddling.
