My 5 molly fry are still doing pretty great in my new tank, they've lasted for like a week now so far which is better than I had really expected in this tank. They've all gotten a little bit bigger, which is cool, but I was wondering about how fast they grow? Right now they're about half an inch long.

It depends on what you feed them, quality of water, and the temperature of your tank.

Ok so what would make them grow the best?

it takes about a month till they are a good size that most adult community fish wont be able to hurt them

I use "First Bites". they love it

Hikari makes First Bites...should be available at your LFS. It's a small package but goes a LOONG way-they won't eat much. Other good things would be Live Baby Brine Shrimp or decapsulated brine shrimp eggs as a supplement to the first bites.

Feed sparingly....you are more likely to hurt them from overfeeding than under.

water changes!! I can not tell you how a good water change helps fish grow. good food and water changes. I did myt tanks 2 times a week and the babies grew well. oh and mated and produced

Fastest way to get them to grow feed twice daily and good flake as well, do very frequent water changes twice a week if necessary 20-30%. Also to get good growth out of females you need to seperate the females from the males as soon as you can tell the males are developing the gonopodium being pregnant early stunts growth for the life of the fish once pregnant almost always pregnant type of deal with most live bearers.

My first Mollie births were back in February, the young are just now developing into adulthood, that is the male is showing a larger sailfin and the female has definately a shorter fin. Will need to seperate them soon. I am suprised at how long it has taken for them to grow, the rest of that brood was taken to a fish store and they are smaller than mine kept at home. Must be the flakes I feed them.

algae wafers or hikari sinking wafers work great too. My molly fry wont touch the first bites, they prefer the snail biscuits I made, and the sinking wafers and algae wafers
