for those who didnt understand, my box turtle egg must of hatched, and he escaped thro the bars in his outdoor pen. i couldent imagine him to be so tiny. i searched for about an hour now, but all i got was about a hundred ant bites. hopefully ther will be more in the future, and my little contribution will live a long, healthy life

it has to have been in the last three days, my guess is 2 days ago. i think ill see him again, i mean where else is he going to go. kinda sad tho, first reptile iv ever succesfully bred :(

come to think of it, iv seen a similar egg before. maybe my three have been helping the population here all along. the last one iv seen was two years ago, and she was the mother. that makes me feel better

i wonder how long it will be until ther are more eggs

Well congrats are in order! I really didn't think the eggs had incubated that long but I guess so. It usually takes between 50 and 80 days for the eggs to hatch. Obviously warmer temperatures incubate the eggs faster. Now I just hope the fire ants leave the baby alone.

yes they are only about the size of a quarter when they hatch, and considering that they are adept diggers is there anyway he could have escaped that way? if you want to keep him around try leaving shallow pools of water and maybe some treats out for him and maybe you will catch a glimpse

no, she layed it in a little rabbit cage. the bar spacing was too big, and the entire cage is made of chicken wire. i closed the cage up so no one would mess with it, but i reopened it and shes been in ther. ther might be more in the other spot, but ill just have to wait to see

now im pissed. this is some bs. they were completlys surrounded, barracaded in, even if they had dug out, no holes, no burrows, nothing. this was last night this happened. just checked them yesterday. either these things are escape artists, or somthing else is happening to them

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, im mad

no way, on top of the thing they were in, i had a cynder block. and when i took the eggs out, ants swarmed them, meaning that they hadent already found them. no sign of mouse teeth. idk what happened

that sucks...could you house the eggs in a plastic tote so they can't climb out?i mean you could put some screen on the top so no animals could get in.

next time i might just have to dig them up, and put them in a caged area.

Next time when you know where the eggs are laid put a piece of rabbit wire over it. Bend it into a bowl shape and place it over the eggs so the turtles can reach the surface but can't escape. You will have to shove the edges of the wire into the dirt so they can't dig under it. Make a great predator deterrent too.

thats how ther cage is set up, wire goes a foot outward. i guess ill just have to wait until she lays more
