I just got some hornwort and I was wondering if it's all right if all the little leaves that float around after you put the plant in the water are all right to allow to stayin the tank. I tried netting out as much as I could but I ddin't get all of it. Also, the bunch I got has these little clear spherical knobs things on the end of some parts of it. They almost look like eggs but they are rather hard. I took pics but I cannot gurantee the best quality. I took the plants out because I don't know what those little things/eggs at the end are.

The little leaves will eventually rot in your tank, increasing the nitrates. It's best to take them out.
It looks like you have goldfish in that tank, and from my experience, those are not goldfish eggs at all. Did you get this from a LFS or a pond?

I got 'em from PetsMart today and I currently don't have the plants in the tank right now.
It's near impossible to get those leaves. What would eat them? Snails, crabs, fish?

hornwort can melt. i had some that almost 90% die off out of the blue then pick back up. just try to get as much out as you can.

I blew up the photos and I can't ID those things. (I did see some human hairs though)
Ya know, I'm suspicious that the Hornwart came from a pond or was grown outside and those things are some kind of insect larvae or something. The plant is in poor condition in my opinion, anyhow if you like your Goldy I would toss it and get something from a more reliable source.

I don't see where it would be that harmful. As we all know a goldfish will eat anything.:) Just put it in your QT tank and see what happens. Oh yeah, the little pieces will get caught in your prefilter, keep it cleaned too.

yeh, i agree with jink, i use to have a goldfish tub outside and it always had crud like that in the filter and everywhere and there were snails all over the place. most plants at the lfs have snails anyway.

you might not have to worry because my goldfish ate all the hornwort i put in his tank
the hard things do look like insect or invert eggs so i would defiantly put it in the qt

All of mine melted away too. I let it go to the bottom and then got it up with a gravel vac. Now I'm waiting to see if it bounces back. Hope so because I really like the look of it.

thats how they adjust. they first go into shock and lose all their leaves but all the new growth will be permanent and it grows quite fast.
