I have the opportunity to pick up a used magnum 350 for $20. Guy told me it was used for about 3 months, then stored for 2-3 years because he upgraded to sump pum for his 125 gal tank. Is this a good deal. Look pretty used, but I suppose as will all used filters that have been stored for a while, the hard water and calcium build ups look a little nasty. Might be fine when its cleaned up. He said it comes with all the parts incl tubes. I know I should probably get new tubes. I mostly want this as a spare or for a 20 or 29 gal setup later on. What do you think?

It is a good deal! The scaling can be cleaned off by soaking in white vinegar or can be cleaned faster by using swimming pool acid (muratic acid). I got my Magnums used and after I cleaned them up I was very impressed with them. They are also so quiet that most of the time that if not for the water movement I wouldn't know they were on.

OK... I checked it out. It works... a little dirty, some dried up hardwater stains mostly. I bought it for $20. I will try to take everything apart and clean when I get home later. Maybe try vinegar first and if that doesnt do it, I will try the muriatic acid. It doesnt look too bad so maybe vinegar and a good scrub will take care of it. What else would I need to replace? It has all the hoses and parts as far as I could tell. I did run to a petstore & picked up a replacement filter pad (the blue one) It doesn't have a manual so I'm gonna have to go online later to try to piece it back together.

Check out the replacement parts area of www.petsolutions.com
They have a nice exploded view of them.

Good buy.
