I brought home my firefish today he's been in the quarantine tank for only about an hour. I just noticed he has one little white spot on his left side. I'm thinking ich, maybe? But other than the white spot he's perfectly fine. Great coloring, swimming fine, he even already has a great appetite. So thoughts on what it is? What I should do? I really hope it's not ich!:wall:

If I've read right because of the lifecycle of the ich right now it shouldn't be in my water because he's only been in there for 1 day right? So how do I treat it before it does get in the tank? He is in quarantine luckily.

You should treat for 14 days. Stress and temperature fluctuations can cause it to show. An hour in quarantine is hardly long enough to do anything at all.

If you confirm this as Ich, treat with hyposalinity as its already in quarantine...
Here is a little write up on hypo.....Sure, there are other routes, but, this is one i prefer, always worked fine for me...

So how can i confirm that it's ich? Are there any other symptoms I should watch for?
Should I do the hyposalinity you think just as a precautionary?

Thanks for the great article CPD. Hmmmmm... I'm not sure what to do. The spot is a little bigger then the in the pictures i've seen. He's been in quarantine for 5 days now and the spot is still the same size. It's just one little spot hasn't spread at all. It looks like a grain of sugar. So do you guys think it's ich and if not was else.

A picture would help. If it's "bug" like it could be and Isopod.

I wouldn't really call it bug like. I tried getting a picture but my camera phone won't focus enough for you to be able to see it. Still no change what so ever.

Well an interesting development I've been gone for 3 days come back and find a gazillion copepods on my glass in the quarantine. The firefish is havening a lot of fun eating them. I looked up the isopods. I definetly have copepods in the tank. What's on the fish is definetly not that either. No feet, antennas, eyes. So I'm really on the fence about what to do. I'm thinking I should just wait and see but i don't know.

I haven't been able to get on for a while because my internet was out. So I've just been watching him. 5 more days and it will have been his month in quarantine. The spot is still exactly the same. Nothing has changed at all. So I'm pretty sure it's not ich. Is there something else it could be? Or could he just have a spot there like a freckle or something if that's even possible?
