I just bought an all glass 5 gallon mini bow aquarium and decided to put a compact fluorescent bulb in its hood. I'm wanting to turn the tank into a planted. It's a 14 w spiral bulb that says it is equivalent to 60 w. I put the bulb in and the bulb is touching one side of the reflector in the hood? Could this be a potential hazard? If so, where can I get a cf light that has good wattage for a 5 gallon?

if its touching the metal part then its fine, if the reflector is plastic then that might be a problem..
14w is good for a 5g tank. Though small tanks dont follow the wpg rule.
Coralife has freshwater bulbs that are slimmer and are 13w i believe and would be good for your application.

You could also try a smaller CFL bulb. I use two 9 watt bulbs in my 10g.

if you call up ahsupply they have a 28w kit that you can use

^^ dont think its really worth going with an ahsupply kit for a tank that small. They sell lamps at staples/homedepot that use 27w quad powercompact bulbs. This will run you around $20
