What are the minimum requirements for keeping and maintaining downoi? Hard or soft water? Medium or high light plant? Also, where is a good place to get some? I notice aquatic magic on ebay sells it, but it's 10 plants for almost 50.00 with shipping. I'd rather get a small portion and just propogate it.

well i'm not sure but i think it's mainly high light and is pretty versital with water conditions (at least mine is). to find it i would say look around the classified section on here and over at TPT's swap & Shop section and APC's For sale and Trade section to get the best prices from member there.

Never had it but I hear it likes softer water....dont quote me on that.....just what I hear.

Its actually a fairly expensive plant. Each "stem" will run you about the same price as anubia would.. $3-6 depending on size.. The plant actually does like softer water and does better with higher light and great amount of co2.. I had mine for a while but once co2 cut out the plant started melting..

It does ok in harder water. I keep it in 11.0dkh, high light, C02, custom EI.
Does well for me, when my Godeos (spelling) leave it alone.

I've been growing it under two 65w CF's (40gal), CO2 and Flourish(not full strenght). It does really well until my sword leaves start to shade it out . . very cool plant though, leaves are very fragile and break off easily so take care . . spreads out towards higher light areas I've noticed.

My water (Seattle) is pretty soft doesn't appear to bother it any.

an aside: My bulbs are about 8 months old now and I've noticed it really start to slow down.

Interesting.....So its more light dependent and can survive different degrees of hardness.

I got the same water as FTM so at least I know I can grow it!
