I am looking for a plant that will fit in a 2.5 gallon aquarium that will go out the open top and possibly flower. I want to create a look that will abandon the confines of the aquarium. Does anyone know of any plants that will work? I know 2.5 gallons isn't a lot to work with, but I am very interested in this.
Thanks!

I think that you mean plants that will grow "emersed", but I could be wrong in my vocab...

Pygmy chain sword (E. tennelus) blooms above the water in my 3g although the leaves stay underwater. It has nice little white flowers too. One of my apons did too in that tank, but it was really too tall for it.
Many swords will flower this way and also Anubia is known to flower above the water's surface. In fact, I'm told that you can plant Anubia in a flower pot and stick in on the window sill. I think that you'd have to keep it very moist in that application, however.
I believe Tom Barr suggested that to me as an alternative to bleaching them to rid them of algae. I just couldn't see pulling all my Anubia out of the tank and potting them up, just to rid them of algae.

Bacopa comes to mind. They grow out of the water and also flower. While they grow tall, they won't take up a lot of space undewater if you don't want them to.
