View Full Version : I'm sad...
Two of my bettas have died within the past three weeks.
I have a thirty gallon tank and I had three bettas in there but two of them have died. One died about two weeks ago and then one of them died this morning. I made a post about the one that died this morning a few days ago, saying she was laying up against the heater upside down and acting really weird. After she was doing that, she just stayed at the top of the tank and did nothing for a long time. Then I woke up and she was gone. :(
I'm just really sad. It sucks, man. I hate seeing my fishies die. My brother says it's cause I'm buying them from Petco. The fish that I buy from the local good fish store are the ones that are having no problems, but the Petco fish are having problems.
*sigh*
I was just sad about it. Poor fishies.

Sorry to hear it, its never easy to lose fish. How long did you have them? its possible they are weak stock.

My sympathies. :(
I felt like crap for a day after Rocky died, but losing a favored pet fish is something we all have to go through. I'm sure you did your best for them. Look at it this way: you got those bettas out of a probably crappy Petco environment and gave them a good home with good care for a while. :)

Thanks. :)
I only had them for about two months. I guess they probably were just weak stock.

Sorry to hear about your loss. FYI, You should only keep one male Betta / Siamese Fighting Fish in any one tank. They are notorious for fighting and may kill one another in the confines of a tank. Female Bettas are not quite as aggressive, but usually aren't most peoples' choice to keep, as they are not as showy. Male and female Bettas are only placed together temporarily to mate, then should be separated immediately.

Oh, they were females. :)

Generally it is not recommended to keep even female Bettas together. Some people have had success, others not. Bettas tend to be territorial and females tend to be relentless in working out a pecking order. If you try it again be sure to add plenty of cover; decorations and plants so each 'female' Betta can carve out their own space. Do not try to keep two together - maybe three - four or five might help to diffuse their aggression. Keeping them together definitely involves risk.

Females can go together, but like Rb said space is usually an issue.
So sorry for the loss :(
