I don't know if this should really go here, or in the "equipment", or general freshwater sections, but since i want to know mainly about banjo and rafael cats, i'll just put it here, and if it gets moved, oh well..

OK, so i know that in saltwater aquariums, lunar lights are a big deal, so you can observe nocturnal animals when the lights are out. but i've never heard of lunar lights in a freshwater setup. I've read that you'll most likely never see your banjo catfish because its nocturnal, and hides during the day. but if you get the lunar LED or some sort of red lights, would the banjo notice and hide, or go about his business like nothing's there?

PS; if this thread DOES get moved, would someone send me a PM telling me where it was moved to? thanks.

You can use a blacklight. Either in a flashlight or a lamp.

I have lunar lights in several of my FW tanks. Some blue some white. Once the fish are used to them, I see all my night life fish.

And your thread is fine here. If it gets moved, an auto PM is sent out to the OP.

A flashlight will do. I have lots of nocturnal fish including a beautiful shy Black Ghost Knife Fish. I observe him using a flashlight and he never notices!

Use blue actinics or the lunar lights to observe them at night.

The cheap strip LED moonlights you can find on ebay work just fine for nocturnal fish. Don't bother with the spots unless you have a pretty small and tall tank. Strips work better IMO. A lot of the bottom dwellers tend towards the night shift. I don't think I'd have seen half the plecos I used to keep without a moon light.
