Ok so I have this marginal planted tank, was the home of my now deceased HM betta Sapphire that I'm cleaning out right now.. The roots are all inter-twinned so moving them apart isn't easy/impossible?.
There's lucky bamboo, an iris-like plant and arrowleaf. The arrowleaf died back and if now very small.

I would like to raise the root mass off the ground somehow and bring the plants a few inches higher. To the point where this tank can be half filled with water without submerging the arrowleaf underwater. Then I'd like to use this tank to house a new male betta or move Quartz my delta male back in there.

I was thinking of just putting a few stones down there, unless someone has a better suggestion. I'm guessing whatever I put down there will become attached to the plants. I had a breeder box sitting in that tank and the roots grew into the slots.

In the meantime , I came up with another idea...I think I'll stick some small PVC pipes down there. Since they are hollow, it will mean extra fishy hidey places.
