What is this stalk that grew from my Brazilian Sword overnight..

I went away for 2 days, and when I got back this stalk was growing out of my brazilian sword plant. It must've grown about 6" each day because it was NOT there when I left. What is it??

Looks like an inflorescence to me.

either that or a mother stalk that will have babies attached to it.

so what exactly do I do with it? I like the brazilian sword plants...will this give me more? I really wasn't expecting this.

probably babys, Just before I sold my sword (a regular sword, that was in a 20g, yikes) it sent off a mother shoot, the guy got a few babies with it too. I just wish my barthii would split, its a great plant, and could fit two in my 20 long.

I think every sword I have had has done the babys stem.

do I need to cut off those stems and plant them, or just let it grow on it's own?

Leave it be. When the young plant has several leaves and is developing roots, you can remove it and replant. If you let it grow out of the tank it will develop flowers.

awesome! thanks guys! I was really surprised by this...the plant almost died a couple times, but now it looks like I'll have 2 of them!
