So, my wife thought my eel was stuck under one of the rocks, so I went in to investigate..

He was fine, but during the process of moving rocks around, my porcupine puffer thought it would be nice to rest on my carpet anemone!

It got ugly fast..

The puffer started flipping out, and blew up to the size of a baseball!

I got them apart using my feeding stick, and the puffer won't go near that side of the tank now. I just wanted to know if they'd both survive the ordeal. Neither one has any visible injuries, but I've never had to perform a seperation before. Usually, I WANT the carpet to eat!

I know if I wasn't there, the puffer would have been doomed..

my question is why would u have a predator tank and have an high lighted difficult to keep anemone in your tank.

Not all predators eat corals...

I think you'll be just fine mate...I presume the puffer deflated ok?? And how does they look now????

It is a bad idea to keep clumsier/"lounging" type fish with a known fish-eater. I have learned from past experiences to only keep active upper level swimmers with anemones (even a risk then). It is even riskier when they can harm each other at the same time.

He's fine now. He deflated soon after the incident, and has gone back to his normal activities. He's been back to that side of the tank, but he keeps his distance. I guess the near death experience taught him a hard lesson..

He doesn't eat any of my few corals. He DOES eat the small snails, though.. No big loss; they multiply like rabbits.

No. I wouldn't expect the Diodon puffers to eat corals. I don't think I have ever heard of one that did. Arothron are a different story--A. nigropunctatus, aka dog-faced puffer deliberately bites and eats Acropora spp. growth tips/axial corallites.

My porcupine puffer's doing great now! He swims around the tank quite a bit (when he's not being lazy) and comes to the top of the tank whenever he sees me. He's got lots of character, and I love his goofy smile!

I have another question:
He's extremely curious, and whenever I have to reach in the tank, he comes right to me and gets REALLY close.. I'm worried he might brush against me, and as a prior lionfish owner, I'm a bit gunshy when I'm in the tank.

Should I be worried if he brushes against me, or will I survive? Anyone have experience with this?

No, he won't hurt you if you com in contact. The spines aren't venomous, either. They are only poisonous (not venomous) if ingested.

Good.. I wasn't planning on eating him!
How much should I feed this guy? I think he would eat EVERY time I fed him, even if he wasn't hungry...

Feed him so his belly looks full. You also should be feeding good hard shells foods that he can crunch his teeth on. I buy my puffer food from the seafood department at the grocery store :)
