Hi all,

I own about 8 planorbids, and they are laying eggs all over the bottom of the tank, but the eggs ARE NOT HATCHING and turn cloudy/misty instead of the usual clear color. They are all over the bottom of the tank. What can I do?

Another thing is that they have white, bleached cracks on their shells like eroded craters on the moon, ever since I left the tank uncleaned for a month, what is that and why is that and how to solve it?? Is it a lack of calcium/protein?

Thanks!

sounds like lack of calcium. what are you feeding them?

What are you water parameters including ph? What else is in teh tank? Can you get a picture of the eggs and what is concerning you about the shells?

if you left the tank uncleaned for a month, you probably had a huge ammonia buildup. that could cause a pH crash. the low pH eroded their shells, and they may be laying infertile eggs as a result of the poor water conditions.

Hi all, the huge ammonia build-up situation was last year, but the effects couldn't have gone until now? I change the water weekly, but the eggs are still infertile ONLY IN THE SNAIL TANK. If I put the eggs into another separate tank/jar, they HATCH. Why don't they hatch in the snail tank?

And for the snail shells, there are still little white lines. Sorry I cannot post a pic since my camera is broken :headshake2:

As for the calcuim, what do you suggest? A cheap. efficient way (not liquid calcium as it is too expensive and hard to find)?

Thanks in advance!:silly:

cuttle bones/fish weekend feeder blocks, wonder shells more green veggies.

But holiday blocks float, and my snails stay on the bottom. Is there any way of making it sink?
