I discovered a nasty problem with my 30 gal stand. It's cutting into the floor:eek: :help:.
Too much weight on a small area/ metal stand is causing the metal "feet" to cut into the floor. I'm not worried it'll break the floor as in fall through it, just don't want further damage. I feel before further damage happens, I need to take down the tank rack currently housing two of my synos, two bettas and five kuhli loaches.. *sighs* and protect the floor from my aquarium stand.

Any suggestions on how I can spread the weight from the metal stand 'feet". I was thinking I'd try furniture coasters.

I'm trying to plan how to make this move. An added complication is one of the synos has an injury so it may not be a good time to put them through "musical tanks".

So I may just take down the tank the betta and loaches are in, move them into the corner tank that was housing my make betta, Quartz. Quartz is still in my sick tank on my bathroom floor from that stupid poluted gravel incident.

Removing the top tank housing the bettas and kuhlis would help until I could move the lower tank housing the two synos. Then I could wait until the injured syno heals up, move that tank and then do whatever I need to do with the stand. The injured syno is doing quite well, though I know they get quite stressed when you catch them.

you're making things harder than they should be again.

lower water level in betta tank. catch bettas and loaches. place in bucket/holding container. drain tank, remove tank.

lower water level in syno tank. catch syno cats with a plastic container (tupperware etc.) instead of net. place in holding. drain and remove tank.

put coasters/plywood/buffers under stand.

replace, refill, repeat.

i hate to be harsh, but i have 30g tanks, and honestly they contain more fish than yours do. it doesn't take hours of planning and work to move them around. you just go and do it. buy some prime and use your tap water. that seems to be the biggest thing holding you back from doing anything with your fish.

Iv put small carpet squares under the feet on metal stands, lowering the water level as posted makes things much easier.........:)

use squares of metal found in home depot. The fact that the legs are digging into wood floor it wold not be a good idea to just add more wood. Ie if one legs sinks more than the rest you now have an unstable rack and tanks.

use 4" X 4" steal sheets this will distribute the weight and keep the rack stable

Perhaps, but It takes a lot to dig into a hardwood floor without any motion.

I suspect that the stand is on vinyl flooring, as I've seen that happen before with other heavy objects with narrow wheels/legs.

Thanks peeps.
I think I will try the carpet suggestion as I have a carpet store down the road. I just went there to check their dumpster. No scraps in there today alas, so I'll go in the morning and ask if they have any on hand.

Yes the flooring is vinyl tiles. Hopefully no more loaches will die in the night *crosses fingers*. And hopefully I'll get this move done tomorrow.
