the reason for my post is my Oscar (Bill) is in horriable shape he is still young but has all this white sludge comeing off him and his fins are almost pretty much gone down to just the stumps from the back tail fin to the dorsal fin, they are really really short and also have this white slime is the best word i can come up with on them.

The tank is 50 gallon with 2 jack dempasy and a Black convict and a brown eel and a choch albino pleco, ohh and a very tiny small baby convict that has a big attitude.

The other fish picked on the oscar a little but got bored after the first 3 days.

1.All fish are about 3 inch long give or tak few mill
2.water is about 7.5 ph i think this is the right way to say this.
3.tank has been setup for over 1 year
4.just changed allthe filters and added a nice refreshing air wall or air stick thingy.
5.The oscar is now in what i call a hospital tank and is no longer on his side like in the big tank and is eating now but look like he is loosing his whole outer layer of scales, turning to this white sludge.

Ok i shoud stop rambling.

I have some stuff called pariste killer that i got today that bubbles when put in the tank, ohh hospital tank is only a 3 gallon hegagon but oscar has all to him self.

I have spent 40 buck on Bill who cost me 9.99 but i am darned if he will die on my watch.

Please help

1. This tank is going to be immensely overstocked when all the fish reach adult size. Even now there could be some problem with space given the nature of the fish you have.

2. Is this tank cycled, and how? How often are you changing the water and how much at a time?

3. What are you ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings?

4. The 3 gallon is way too small for your oscar even with the size he is at right now. It is also going to be nearly impossible to keep the params under control with the tank that small.

5. Water changes are your friends right now. Post pics asap if you can.
