View Full Version : After a Water Change
Dechlorinator? I don't do now considering my water doesn't have chlorine and chloramine. Why are you asking this question?

I add nothing, my water supply comes from a natural spring that flows out of the mountain so I have the freshest cleanest water you can ask for:)

I add Prime during the WC and ferts afterwards.
hmm I only add after adding the new water - is that bad?
Aquarium salt will harm the fish in the long-run. Best keep it in the cabinet until ich appears.

Better off adding it before adding the new water or while adding the water, in theory at least.

I add prime after I siphon out a third of the water, but before I put water back in the tank.

harm? how? I add way less than what they say anyway. I add like 6 teaspoons to a 30 gal
does adding the prime before adding back the water make a difference?

Read up osmoregulation. You get better explanations about this by searching in General Freshwater. It's only a myth that aquarium salt can prevent any diseases. Your fish can live without it as their ancestors had in the wild.

FW fish do not need salt at all except for specific treatment.
does adding the prime before adding back the water make a difference?
No. Prime is safe dosed up to 5x and the brief period between it being added and water being added offers no real risk.
what do you guys think of api stress coat and stress zyme?

Hocus pocus... and a money maker is all it is IMO. They claim to help the fish add to it's slime coat. Any irritant will do that though. It's not needed if you maintain your water conditions.

Well water here. I dose excel and assorted ferts after refilling the tank. I have only fw tanks so there is no reason to add salt and anything that ends in zyme should only be put into the toilet.
