Whoot, I got my crayfish from ladyblues1965 the other day (many thanks, btw!). It turns out that they are Red-Claws at about six months of age, and females (which is fantastic because I have been looking for "girlfriends" for my large male)!

Here's Amethyst, the purple-blue female.

Here's Lazuli making hate faces as she's charging out of her cave at me.
Cute lil' things, huh? Pretty soon they'll be huge like this:

(this is Ebirah, my large male)
And they are already destroying my feeder goldfish population! ^_~
Very nice! Although I still shudder from their looks.:22_yikes:

Currently, a ten gallon. After my move (2 weeks or so), they'll be in a fifty gallon with the big male, since they're already approaching the "too big for a ten gallon" size.

Goldfish and rosies mainly. They'll get scraps of what I bring home from fishing too, whenever I get my butt back in gear and start fishing again, hah.

Ohhhh I am so glad they made it ok. I was truley worried. I bought them as electric blue lobsters. I am glad the mistaken Idendity worked out good for you. I hope they do well.

A lot of fish stores label these guys as Electric Blue Lobsters because at an early age they look very similar (and they are easier for stores to get a hold of). But either species is really cool! And I love 'em to bits, thanks so much!

was the big one always that dark colour or did he turn darker as he aged? just wondering because i love the way he looks but mine looks more like the first two, but i'd love for him to darken up like that.

They get darker as they age. The darker the color, the older the cray (for this species at least). I didn't have him as a juvenile, but I've seen enough of these crays grow to know that they'll get darker as they age. You can also make the coloring little more vivid by modifying their diet a little bit. A higher diet of meat and spirulina (algae, some fish food have higher amounts of this in them) will bring out their coloring.

uhm no meaness meant but goldfish do not have very much protien and therefore should not be a large part of the diet like they are in your crayfish crab guys. a little piece of advice. P.S they are cool looking

They are not a large part of my crayfish's diet, they are snacks that are in the tank with the crays. But since a crayfish's diet should consist of more vegetation than animal matter (for the majority of species at least), it's not really an issue.
