How long does it take for the mixture to start working? 1\4 tsp yeast 2cups of sugar and 2cups of water.

2 cups of water isnt enough..
For a 2L bottle i believe its 4-5 cups water- 1/4 teaspoon yeast - 1.5 cups of sugar

Should start working within 2-6 hrs if nothing happens after 24hrs something is wrong

Right - 3 volumes water per volume sugar, give it a few hours.

I forget the technical term-But in short, Did you activate the yeast in tepid water first?
This usually makes it take off in a couple hours on a small batch.

I don't, done it a few times, havn't noticed a bit of difference.
