I have an empty 30 gallon tank that I would like to add a cichlid to. One that would grow to a decent size. In the tank will be a decent size pleco and the cichlid. What kind would make a decent tank mate. Anyone??

Decent-sized pleco worries me...also, are we talking imperial gallons or American gallons?

American gallons: possible choices: single Con, Jade-Eyed Cichlid, Firemouth

See me sig

I've had 3 cichlids in there for a while, just returned 2 of them to get 2 more. The Tetra are fine (not crowded) and loaches come out to play/feel safe. I have a common pleco, will eventually get upgrade him. He does his job though, tank's pretty clean.

From what I've learned, the length of the tank (30g is 3 feet) is critical for having the more aggressive cichlids. You can't put dempsey's in there (need 4 feet of length+), but you could put an ahli and Uaru... until the Uaru grew full-sized, then you may need to move one of them out. Don't forget smaller fish, no sense just having 2 fish in a tank that has easily held up to 30 for me :D.

The pleco is about 4 inches already. The tank is 30 gallons American. I'll look into those other fishes.

What sort of pleco are we talking? Unless it's a Bristlenose, or possibly a Rubber-lip, it will probably get too big for that tank.

I'm not sure about the pleco. I'm taking it from a tank my friend had. Haven't seen it yet. But thanks for the advice.
