I bought a new Aqua C Remora with a Maxijet pump.

It took about a week or two to break in and then started producing foam. It's on a 55 gallon tank with two powerheads, base rock, and one ocellaris clown (so far). The tank has been up and running for a month and a half and is fully cycled. No amonia or nitrite; nitrates are at about 10. Specific gravity is about .1022

Question: How much foam should it be producing?

It produces a little bit of foam (about the size of a golf ball) on top of the foam tower. The foam looks like dish soap bubbles. Eventually it slides down into the collection cup and becomes mucky water. Sometimes there is no foam. Sometimes there is.

Is my new skimmer working correctly?
Should I be getting more foam than that?
What does "dry" foam look like and do I have it?

Thanks a lot!

Sounds like it is working fine. Since you only have 1 fish, your water does not have many nutrients.

Thanks! What about the dry foam? I always read about adjusting the skimmer up or down so you get dry foam instead of wet foam. What's the difference?

If you raise the collection cup only the driest foam will be pushed up into the collection cup. There are many debates in the hobby as to which foam (wet or dry)actually removes more nutrients. I just make sure that the cup is high enough to make sure it doesn't over flow. Also the higher you place the cup the less you will have to empty it., but it will also be dirtier and need to be cleaned(wiped off) more often.
