I would lean more toward it being a hybrid of Sciaenochromis fryeri and an Aulonocara sp., for a couple of reasons. S. ahli is almost non-existent in the US and the chances of one showing up in a LFS is HIGHLY unlikely. Also, even though the shape in very similar to S. fryeri, the reddish area on the chest and shoulder area would indicate Aulonocara influence. It should still become a very pretty male. Good luck with him.

I do not know for sure.. but all the pics I saw of the Sciaenochromis fryeri did not show the tail or the yellowish striping that our fish has and many of the pics show that on the Sciaenochromis ahli I know that these might be rare, but we shop at a bunch of crazy fish stores that carry all kinds of stuff that is not really usually in like a petsmart or pet supplies plus... so who knows... i just look at the pics and the descriptions and try to figure out what is really going on...

The problem is more that the pictures you'll find of S. ahli are also usually S. fryeri in the first place. It's EXTREMELY unlikely you have S. ahli. The pictures don't really give enough detail to be able to see how crisp the markings are, if there's white on the forehead, or if there's just red in the finnage, or actually on the body. There are a good number of very blue peacocks. Try to get another shot of the fish from directly side on, if you can.
