Do I need to use a certain kind of paint to paint the inside of my hood or will any house and trim paint be o.k. as long as it's dry? I was thinking of using some white Kilz primer I have in the basement - it's exterior I believe.
The hood is a DIY plywood hood over a glass covered tank. That is a tank that has a glass lid to reduce evaporation.
It's a fresh water tank.

I used an oil based high gloss white paint. The reason I use oil is that it stands up to the moisture better than laytex. The kiltz should be ok as a primer (its oil based i think) but i would go with an oil high gloss white Here is mine

Thanks DabblerII! I saw your hood pic b4 - Looks great! The Kilz I have is their "Total One" grade which is actually acrylic but is exterior/interior and according to the chart on the can, compared to the rest of their line, it's good for everything. It can be coated with oil-based paints too.

i made my hood out of oak plywood and oak trim. i used a marine grade oil based polyurethane. i put on four coats, just to be sure. so far, there have been no problems. (i can't wait to get a digital camera to show you guys the diy hood:))

That sounds pretty sweet chris! I have to match my hood to the stand I built out of maple plywood - which came out pretty d! good (pics to follow when hood is finished!)
I'm going to go the lightweight route for the hood which turns out to be cheaper. I have a bunch of maple boards and am going to make a frame , attach luan, and then trim. Staining to match the stand might be tricky but I'll only have about $10 in supplies (excluding the glue, wood and fasteners that I already have) so if it doesn't work out, I'll upgrade!
