My Aquariums provided me with more than a hobby. They were a way to keep myself sane while I cared for my elderly mother who was disabled with both severe arthritis and Parkinson's disease. Today my dear mom passed away with me at her side. If it weren't for the diversion of this hobby I could not have cared for her for the last few years. Something has to give a caregiver an outlet, and if you have to be indoors, what hobby could be better!

You have my deepest sympathy for your loss and a grateful thank you for for being a care-giver.

My wife is my care-giver as we cannot afford a home nurse. Medicare won't pay the full cost and we cannot afford the difference. Because of this, my wife is my care-giver between jobs and her days off. Luckily, I am somewhat self-reliant and able to feed and dress myself but I still require someone to at least look out for my welfare.

I see how hard this is for my wife and I can only imagine how much harder it had to be for you.On that count, I too use fish as my therapy. They help keep me calm and occupy my days by watching, feeding, caring, and learning about them. Yes, they are very therapeutic. Because I am so occupied by them my wife doesn't worry about me as much now as she did in the early months and years.

Being a care-giver is hard, thankless, and tedious job. So to you and on behalf of all of us that require a care-giver, THANK YOU!

Again, my condolences for your loss.

My condolences, Holly. I lost both my parents a few years ago and, no matter how much you steel yourself for it, it just isn't easy. It sounds like you did your best for her, which is all anyone can ask. I'm glad the hobby gave you some relief, and I hope it continues to bring you joy in the years to come.

Holly,
I've been out of touch and just read this. I'm so sorry about your mom. Being a caregiver takes a very loving and dedicated person, and I know your mom must have felt blessed to have you with her through the end. I know how hard it can be to be there caregiver having shared that role with my mother and sister as my grandparents declined. I'm so glad you found some peace for yourself and wish your mother an easy journey. I'll be thinking about you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I too am a caregiver and you'r right. My tank is my outlet. I don't leave the house either except for my Dad's Dr. appointments so my tanks are to me a big release.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
