a friend of mine found this in 1 of her tanks. its in with red cherry's and apple snails. its about an inch long.
Damselfly nymph. They're fortunately not as harmful as dragonfly nymphs. Feel free to ditch them if you want.;)

I had 2 of them in a tank once and they ate a good number of baby shrimp. Found one feeding on one of my shrimp and had no clue how they got there. Their lower jaw is like a mousetrap and snaps out to grab prey. Must have shown up with plants....

I woulld definately say they are a risk to the shrimp, not as dangerous as dragonfly, but to small shrimp a definate peril.

Yeah, definitely remove the naiad before it eats your smaller shrimpies. If you have a tank with predatory fish, drop it in there; they will no doubt enjoy it.
Tangent: I don't understand how people who love shrimp can loathe insects. Shrimp are just sea roaches! :silly: Anyhow, who can dislike the adult damselfly?

I'd just go chuck it into a pond to save a damselfly's life.
Poor damselfly nymph.Yep, I'd give it a chance to live. I always see dragonfly nymphs in my ponds during summer.:22_yikes:

A friend brought us a few tadpoles out of his outdoor pond to raise indoors so my daughter could watch the process. I had a damsel fly larva appear. I kept it and it didn't bother the tadpoles one bit. I placed a stick in the tank for it to emerg on to and released it when it became an adult. I like insects a great deal. They are fascinating but I can see where one would not want in a tank.
Great pictures by the way!

That's odd i found a few of these in one of my tanks and wondered what they were, I just couldn't get a good pic. They arrived only after I bought some snails from someone that came with some plants and I made the mistake of putting the plants into my tank, WHAMMO now I have these insects. Needless to say no matter the good rep of this person I WILL NOT be buying anything else from them:)
