can i keep a zebra oto (or 2) in a 10 gallon tank. i have very friendly in habitants in it. which would not pick on it. are they extremely picky about perfect water and are they really hard too care for. i am up for a challenge as long as they are not too hard too care for.

all fish are picky about perfect water. Otos are schoolign fish and do better in groups. They are also eat algae and need a good established tank in order for their needs to be met. Some will easily take prepared foods like algae wafers or veggies, some are more difficult.

I have had little success with Zebra Oto's, compared to my success with normal Oto's. Since I haven't been all too successful with normal Oto's, this means that I've had poor luck with the Zebras. I gave up on them after having 9 out of 10 die. the 10th lived for about a year.

If I remember correctly, very few stores want to deal with Zebra Otos because they're extremely fragile, and by the time the shipments reach them, the majority will have died.

This probably increases their prices as well, I think the last time I saw one, it was around $20.
