3 weeks ago when I got my v. maassi loaches, the lfs guy gave me a few ramshorn & mts snails. Now the 2 bigger ramshorns have lovely shiny new shell ~1/4 inch inner diameter, ~1/2 inch outer diam.

Since they WERE going to be feeders, I wasn't overly concerned about their poor whitish looking shells. Now I'd prefer them to start a colony of more healthy snails, I forgot how much I like these guys.

Can they rebuild their entire shells or is it ok for the innermost shell to be weaker? I have pretty soft water but the new growth seems very healthy. I take this to be a good sign for any future babies although the growth seems a bit fast. I'm considering cuttlebone but don't want drastically different water in each tank. There are some pond snail shells in this tank that may help but less pond snails than before. KH ~3 degrees, GH maybe 4, pH ~7.0. Mostly my cherry shrimp & galaxy rasbora (CPD) tank, good enough?

Man, I never worried so much over inverts until hanging with you guys :grinyes:.

cuttle bone and a veg diet should be alright. there is aasticky at the top of this room about feed ing snails, although its directed at Apples will work with all snails.
