The Things that Food Do

I figured I'd share since I was so amused by the little show that ensued tonight.

So I've got these 2 little dwarf frogs. If any of you have kept dwarf frogs, you know how amusing they are. You also know feeding them can be...well...it's harder than feeding neons I can say that much. Besides the fact that they're basically blind, they're not the quickest ones to figure out there is food around. Especially not compared to the little neons, the BN pleco, or even the lumbering betta :perv:

So I decided to try out the frozen daphnia I had (I've been feeding them frozen brine shrimp up until now). Well little did I know that this stuff wasn't as stringy as the brine shrimp. So with the first little kick (in the wrong direction of course, I can't imagine how these little frogs actually find food in the wild with only scent - always seems like they swim in the wrong direction) a cloud of dapnia exploded.

Well this is where the fun began. The neons went into a bit of a frenzy. They're still a little energized, but they've calmed down at bit. The frogs were completely confused. Most amazing of all, I think, was that the clown pleco actually came out of his hiding spot to suck up some of the daphnia. He actually chased away the frogs (well, the frog in her ignorance struck at the clown and the clown wasn't having any of that). This is probably the first time that I've seen the clown come out during lights on. Of course, when the betta decided to come see what was going on the clown retreated back to the underside of the drift wood.

Frogs still don't seem to know what's going on. But I found it rather amusing. :grinyes:

that is pretty funny!

I must say, ADF are the oddest little things. most of the time they don't move. But when they do, it's complete chaos. They just dart forward, full speed, until something gets in their way. Very strange :duh:

lol :D ADF's are somuch fun!-i have two and they have noooo problem finding food! their names are "Pudge" and "Bacon"

Aren't they just the craziest little guys? I got three.
Once, two of them ended up fighting hardcore over a single bloodworm. Since they lack teeth, tongues, and necks, it was just a race to see who could pull harder.
Another time the frog tried to swallow the entire bottom of the tweezers I use to feed them.
Multiple times, the frogs tried to eat each other's feet.
Once, a frog sat straight up to knock back a bloodworm and toppled over onto his back. He just laid there, chomping away at the worm.

...I'm not entirely sure how these little lovelies have survived in the wild.

I used to feed the adf's like this, I would set up a small plastic lid out of the flow of the filter (bury it in the gravel so not real visible as I left it in teh tank). Then I would us a turkey baster and feed them over the lid. After awhile, they would gravitate to the lid at feeding time and usually would eat out of the end of the turkey baster. They were still messy, but it helped a bit. Anything uneaten i would suck out with the turkey baster when finished.

I used to feed them with a pinch of bloodworms, but then I realized that that was too messy. So now, I feed them by taking a pinch of bloodworms and putting them in a small bowl with tank water and then I use a medicine syringe to suck them up and spot feed them to the ADFs.
