I have 5 botia kubotia's in my tank, I bought them because I liked them and not for the purpose of just eating snails although this is an added bonus, I was pretty certain that they are very keen on snails as most botia's are. But mine do not seem to be very keen on the small ramshorn snails, well I think that is what they are.
The fish are perfectly healthly very active, but they just do not seem to be in the slightest bit interested in these small ramshorns. Maybe the snails are producing at a rate that the botia's cannot keep up with as I seem to be over run with these snails at the moment.
Would it be better to put some kind of snail trap in the tank, I have no intension of using chemicals, or leave the botia's to try and sort it out.

Yea, I'd let them miss a couple meals then squish a few to let them get the idea. If you have lots of snails they may not be able to keep up with breeding at first. The only place I have snails in my botia tanks is the filters.

What they said. ;)

I have clown loaches (also botia) and they only eat snails after the snails reach a certain size.
