pic#1 - looks like a Hikarimoyo-mono variety(metallic koi)

pic#2 - Scaleless Kohaku

pic#3 - looks to be a Ki Utsuri - or a Kin Ki Utsuri(hard to tell if it's metallic or not)

pic#4 - seems to be a Kujaku*Hikariwake*

I think the first one is a Kohaku with gin rin scales. By the pics I can't tell if it has glitterly ginrin scales. In those pics in looks like a plantinum ogon with a few red markings, although I know that this is not a variety. Sorry not good at naming other peoples fish.

Hey just thought of a name for your fish in the first pic. What do you think of Cherry Blossom? It just came to me when I looked at you fish again.

Hypancistrus-zebra,

Nice koi. I have to leave shortly but will try to get back to you later to help identify your koi.

Can you tell me a little about your koi pond?

Well it started as a compost heap.
I wanted a pond for AGES, cause I loved fishin and had a fasination with fish. So on holiday my parents agreed I was allowed a pond, cause I spent the whole time drawing it.

Got home, and pritty much started digging straight away... 2ft down, and a year later, I started again. I took about 1 1/2 - 2years to do... I was young and lazy.

My parents wern't expecting it to be so big, but at only 1000 gals its a small koi pond! Umm heres a few pics...

Ill get a pic of the whole thing, and what it looked like before :)

You know of OASE? Thats the filter + pump Im using.

Very nice. I wonder if your parents can talk to my wife. Maybe then she'll give the OK to build a pond. Although I'll rent a miniexacavator:D

Hypancistrus-zebra,

My guess's for your koi would be...

1. Nidan Kohaku - Koi with red on white are generally referred to as Kohaku. It seems yours has two small patches of red so a two step red on white is referred to as a Nidan Kohaku.

2. Kahaku - The koi is clearly red on white but I don't think it follows any specific color pattern.

3. Aka Bekko or Hi Utsuri - Aka Bekko is black on red while Hi Utsuri is Red on Black. I am not a Koi expert so it is always difficult for me to tell which is which when they name color patterns this way. If I had to pick one I would pick Aka Bekko (black on red) because it looks like hints of red show through some of the black markings which would indicate that red is the background color.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Jeff... this is a Nidan Kohaku
http://www.lagunakoi.com/jpg/nidan.JPG Her fish - http://members.aol.com/bluegecko/pond_fish/gin_rin1.jpg
What Hypancistrus has is not a Nidan Kohaku...she has a Hikari - metallic variey...

Jeff - Aka Bekko or Hi Utsuri - Aka Bekko is black on red while Hi Utsuri is Red on Black. There is no red in this fish...Ki refers to yellow - Hi refers to red. Utsuri have a black base..notice the fins/around the eyes, they are black, a good indicator that this fish is an Utsuri.

"pic#4 - seems to be a Kujaku*Hikariwake* - final 2 pic are what I believe to be a Kujaku..

Just trying to clarify...;)

Happy Thanksgiving!

When you said "names" I didn't realize you meant "names" ... I thought you wee looking for help with identification of varieties...LOL Oh well - Ya know, if you watch your Koi, thier names will come to you thru thier personality/get to know them alittle...that's how ours are named. Ofcourse we ended up finding out "Chuckie" was a "Chuckette"...;)

I don't use MSN...

I'm just as bad with "nameing"...we let our kids name the fish mostly...that's why we have names such as Pikachu ...and Dino...and Ariel...alot of cartoon characters..:D

TJcanada,

You're right. The koi spots are orange/yellow. I must be color blind. No wonder my wife doesn't let me match my ties when I get dressed for work!
