I've been experimenting with snails, (bwaa haaa haaa haaa!). I've got a 5 gallon tank with one sick neon and whenever I've noticed a small snail in any of my other tanks, I would grab it and drop it in the 5. It's been several weeks since I've seen any snails in my other tanks, so I may have gotten whatever stragglers snuck in on my new plants.
By and large they appear to be MTS, and some of them have gotten quite large, maybe 3/8 inch long. Today I noticed a few that instead of the usual ice cream cone shape they have a spotted flat spiral shape and carry their shell around at an angle.
Are these Ramshorn? How big will they get? Are they good to have in a planted tank?
thanks,
:)

Large MTS can approaach an inch, most biggies in my tanks are about 3/4".

Real Ramshorns can do about the same size measure, but as they are discoid, the mass is much greater.

Go to the Apple Snail site:

http://www.applesnail.net/

Look for "various" on the left-hand menu - they have a good selection of snail pictures from other families there for you to compare.

IME & IM tanks, both MTS and Rams are good in planted tanks.
