I am pretty sure that 2 of my angel fish have paired up, leaving an odd man out in my 55G.

I noticed them pecking away at a large leaf on one of my fake plants the other day (Is this how they clean an area to spawn??), one of them looks to be getting pretty large behind the ventral fins (I am guessing because of holding eggs?)............ if they do spawn, for now I am just going to let nature have its course and not try to do anything with the eggs and any fry that may survive.

However, I think they are now starting to get pretty territorial towards the 3rd angel. What size is the minimum recommended tank for a pair of angels? I think I read 29G is about the minimum.......... if they do start to spawn instead of moving the odd angel, I may just move the pair to a tank on their own.

Any advice on what to do if they spawn?

Thanks.

Mine spawn all the time and eat every egg they lay, as a matter of fact I have eggs at this moment. It really all depends on if you want fry or not. If you want the fry then you will more than likely have to remove the eggs to another tank, or just leave the eggs and hope for the best. Good Luck:)

Thought I would add some pictures of the possible love birds........ As you can see from the one blurry pic the gold angel has a large stomach area, I am almost certain its not from constipation as they all eat a good variety of the same foods.

I think the pair should be ok in a 29G. Are there any other fish in the 29? What else is in your 55? Any egg eaters?

if you seperate the eggs from the parents you have to have a slight water flow on the eggs and i think iodine in the water.(or some chemical)

At the moment I don't have the 29G, I am trying to decide whether to move the odd angel to its own tank, or get a tank for the pair. I am thinking of getting a tank for the pair, and believe a 29G would be OK.

In the 55G are 11 Rummynose tetra and 8 peppered cory cats (which I am pretty sure will enjoy any eggs the angels may lay, another reason to look for a tank for the pair to move into). At this point I am not worried about the corys eating any eggs, but in the future I might want to try raising some and selling/trading them.

****......... too late for a Craigslist deal........ 29G with Rena XP2, hood, light and heater for the bargain price of free....... better keep looking. Shame, that would have been ideal.

Goctha. I'd leave them in there then. Having the 29 would be a good backup plan in case they do get overly aggresive to the odd one out.

I would pick up a 20 high for the pair , as far as using iodine not a good idea and the Methylene Blue will work but it stains everything blue. Try what has worked for us Maroxy it's cheap and does the trick.

Nice Pair
