Nano Cube Filter question

I have a 12 gallon nano cube and it's been working fine for about 5 months. I had a few danios who were living comfortably until they decided to start jumping back into the filter compartment. I actually saw one get sucked into the intake on the pump. Yeeesh.

ANYWAY - that's not my current problem. My current problem is that there are three compartments in the filter set up and the compartment with the pump keeps running really low. It's like the flow from the other two compartments can't keep up but I can't figure out how to increase that flow. The pump itself is pretty strong. I've cleaned the media, replaced the sponges, done pretty much everything I can. Anyone have any ideas?

is this a nano cube originally designed for Marine?
does this tank utilize an overflow? built in filter?


many of these 'nano' tanks use a sump in the back..the water level is low on these when you need to replace tank water due to evaporation.
 
The problem is this isn't due to evaporation. I can have the water full to the point that it's spilling over the back into the filter area and the pump still sucks that compartment right down. I'm wondering if I can slow the pump down with a reostat or something.

what is the set up?? like I said many of the nano tanks use an overflow..water is designed to spill over the over flow..the water level in these set ups will look normal in the tank but be very low in the sump(these are basically hob sumps)
when the water level drops the tank will appear normal but you may find the pump running too fast as the water is sent back to the tank and a low level in the sump.

which tank do you have?(this helps as we can determine what filtration you have)
is this a hob? have any parts been changed out?
did you get this tank new?
 
Sorry, I was out of town for a bit.

Well, I cleaned out everything and there seems to have been some build up down in the sponge compartment that was blocking the flow there. I cleaned all that out an a good flow has been returned.
