Arowanas?

i was thinking about selling my fish and getting an Asian Arowana. can anyone tell me about the care of these fish along with minimum tank size requirements and feeding. Are they relatively easy to keep? i've read quite a bit about them on the internet but i never know what to believe. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

For arowana's tanks of at least 4' x 2' x 2' are generally reccomended, although they can be transfered between tanks as they grow.

Isn't that pathetic, that is all I know about them really.

an average arowana gets to about 3 feet. they are in general pretty tought to ween off live food. They jump ALOT and can get a lot of power so you need to have a very solid lid on your aquarium. They are also very active moving constantly so they need alot of space. A couple of hundred gallons is a good starting place for one. of course most of the variets are illegal in the US so be careful what you get.

they can coexist with other fish as long as the other fish stay closer to the bottom of the tank than they do. they stay at the top.
 
silvers (which are the largest I believe) rarely reach 3 feet in captivity, (I think closer to 2.5) but yes they still need AT LEAST 150 gallons in my opinion.

my silver is almost 2.5 he should grow to almost 3 i dont feed him too much anymore. and i only had him for like 2 years grew him from about 4 inches. he would be bigger if i moved him outta his 60 gallon sooner. asians would do fine in a 4x2x2 tank but you should just get a 180 thats what my silver is in. get your fish young and get him on pellets i feed mine hikari cournivore that stuff is pretty expensive food for big fish, they will eat anything though i fed mine a mouse before. you can go to the seafood section at the grocery storeand get shrimp it will help their colors and you can try some of the other things they have to see what he likes mine also takes strips of raw chicken. if you can get a big enough tank and get him on pellets you will be fine. they are really hardy and mine has been on the floor (they jump) a bunch of times and hes smashed his face on the canopy also from jumping. -john
