First Line of a story

I read about this, don't know if it's true, don't particularly care. The idea is to write only the first sentence of a story. Then we see who has the most interesting, the one most people want to read, the best character, etc.

I'll start:

Breaking only three laws, the priest rode his Harley into the small town of Dimebox, Texas.
 
It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.
