a yellow cichlid? do you mean one of the ones out of the *assorted african cichlids* that most LFS seem to have?

well if it is or it isnt one of them this is not a good idea. They might do ok for a bit but cichlids are very territorial and are likely to beat the poo out of anything not tough enough to stand up to them.

I recently got a leleupi from my LFS that fits that very description :p

Watched him chase my cories (small cat fish) last night. I just returned the Buffalohead for the same reason, now the little yellow guy's doing the same thing... can't win with these fish...

cichlids usually need a cichlid only tank. there are of course exeptions such as the keyhole cichlid and rams but its a very terroitorial family line in general.

I'm not sure whitch "yellow cichlide" you mean.
It could be the Labidochromis caeruleus with the common name Yellow Lab.
Or it could be the Neolamprologus leleupi

The first one is coming from Lake Malawi pH7.6-8.4 and the second from Lake Tanganyika pH 8.3-9.2.

Both need to be kept in a species-tank only.
You better read up un those species first, before anything goes wrong.
