my bronze cory is doing something really weird, he keeps on flicking against the sand too many times for it to be whitespot. i'd say about...twenty flicks in about half a minute or something. none of the other fish are displaying any signs of disease or infection, and he is not showing any whitespots all over him, but he just keep on flicking really fast against the sand...checked my water stats, everything is fine, no ammonia etc. what could the problem be? he is in a 600L tank.

Hi Neervana,
Are you adding fertilizers to the tank? Mine will do this in reaction to fertilizers sometimes. It seems to me that they do the flicking because something is irritating their skin or making them itch. And I've also seen them do it when they try to eat a bloodworm that is too big and it comes out their gill. And if all these answers are no, you may be looking at gill fluke irritation.

well my clown loach always has a few flicks when i've just changed the water, but after about 10-20 minutes, he stops, never happened to my cory before. there is no fertiliser in the tank, dont have real plants in there...dont know what else it could be...he seems to have stopped doing it now...but i still want to know what caused it

omg...i just read about gill fluke irritation online...im getting worried now...t says it can result in massive deaths in aquaria..how do i know if it is gill fluke? will teh other fish get?how do i treat it?

Probably some slight component in your water that temporarily acts as an irritant. Do you use a water conditioner?

yes, i use the tetra dechlorinator...but soon i'm going to change to interpet fresh start, because it has more in it then the tetra one

Since it seems to start after a water change and doesn't continue very long, i'm thinking it's something either in the water or the water conditioner that irritates the fish mildly. When you switch conditioners, take notice if this continues. Just like humans, some fish can be more sensitive to a certain chemical component. I have tried a couple of brands of water conditioner with my discus, and they do not like some of them. They will rub plants after a water change and a fresh dose of conditioner goes into the tank. They do the same thing if I add Fourish Excel to the water, so I rarely add that.

ok well, tomorrow is my waterchange day, so i will change a big amount and tell you if i see them reacting badly to it...dont know what will happen though, as its meant for ponds but i had to get it as my tanks are big in size.
