Hi all,

Still doping this sump out in my head. I'm wondering what sort of volume of water I could reasonably expect a sump made out of 1/8 inch acrylic to hold. Fifteen gallons? Twenty gallons? I understand that building it low and long as possible would make it stronger, so it would prolly not be over a foot.

It's important that I use 1/8 because I do not have access to power tools beyond a drill.

I bought the biggest tank that would sit in my cabinet (30L), bought some aquarium sealant, took tank measurements to the glass shop, they cut me some baffles and i put it together myself, all for under $100.00. Let me know if you want a pic to give you an idea.

You can gusset, truss, baffle and make that sump as big as you need using 1/8 inch acrylic.

Did you know they have made bridges that support cars... out of popsicle sticks?

In your process of design for strength, you may come up with some unique flow characteristics for the sump and the gear inside it.

Draw ideas on paper, helps much.
