I recently bought some dwarf hair grass and it came potted in some foam. How do I go about planting it? Do I have to remove each individual hair grass or can I plant globs still in foam? It's turning yellow at the tips and I'm not sure what deficiency is causing that. Any help would be appreciated!

the "foam" is wool and that is how the plant is grown emersed at the nurseries..
I suggest you break away the wool from the grass and plant it in clumps, each clump containing 10-15 blades. Space them out 1/2" and with good light/nutrients it should spread nicely.

you should also trim the grass about a week or 2 after you plant it.. This will promote new growth. Simply take scissors and mow it like a lawn

I'm interested in putting some hairgrass in my 20G tank. I have 1.4 wpg (T5) over my tank right now. Is this enough light?

When trimming hairgrass, I would use a gravel vac with a pair of scissors under it when doing a water change, this way you don't get blades all over your tank and clog your filters.

it will be enough to keep it green but wont be enough to allow it to spread

I see. Probably no better than the pygmy chain swords I have in there right now.

pygmy chain probably have a better chance in spreading than the hairgrass.
If you bump the light to 2wpg then its a different story and both plants should do fine
