I am thinking of converting my 14g biocube (approx 12g of usable lighted space) into a low tech planted tank. With the stock PC lighting its approx 3.6-4 wpg. My question- is there such thing as too much light for some plants? I am a little overwhelmed by all of the choices at the moment but I seem to like mostly low to medium light plants. Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

more light just means more carbon more ferts to balance out. how many bulbs and can you switch one or the other off?

It does have 2 bulbs with separate switches. It has:
(1) 24 watt True Actinic 03 Blue
(1) 24 watt 10,000K Daylight

The atnic bulb will be of little use for plant growth. The 24 watts is good to start. Eventually when you switch the atnic bulb be sure to have CO2 and a good fert plan ready.

Agreed, since the wpg doesn't apply to smaller tanks, that should be a very nice amount of light as long as co2 is added.

You may get algea if you don't inject CO2.

prob should be fine with both bulbs since one doesnt help too much and makes it look nice. also when you switch both bulbs to better bulbs for plants 6500-10000..... you can have both go on for 6 hours.... say the first one 12-6 2nd 4-10
