So after some collecting of the fishes I set up the tank and went at it. All and all it looks pretty good although there is a few things I plan on fixing here is the tank so far....

(note: egg crate is over the tank cause eels are escape artists and for whatever reason when the tank wasn't covered he wet into the filter. With the tank covered he just digs in the gravel and hides between rocks)

Fish

3 - I no idea what these fish are! They are some type of minnow or shiner but that's all I can tell you. They have a blue-ish tint to them and their fins are black.

1 pissed off American Eel - not the one the snake ate ;) yes I know how big they get he's about 4-5 inches now

Misc Fauna

1 Leopard Tadpole
10-20 Water strider, wingless

Everyone's eatting except for the water striders cause I have no clue what they eat but I'm still researching them

now the pics

(note: there is algae on the tank cause that's the condition these guys where in. just a small film of algae over everything.)

Dramatic looking.

I don't know what they are...but I'd try and ID them asap...they look too large to be minnows (I am not an expert by any means) and seem to be active fish. A 29G is no place for a group 5 inch fish which like to swim a lot. Together with some kind of eel apparently.

I'm presuming tank is cycled...meanwhile why not fill it up at least ?

ps also presuming that you are aware of local laws regarding capture of live specimens.

I completely agree that the 5 inch fish needs more room. My brother goes fishing every weekend so I'm sure he'll use those as bait and I'll fine tune the tank yet again. Eel grows to like 3 feet I'm well aware of it he's just not that big yet and when he does get too big he will be used as bait also. Tank has been cycled for quite some time..it's not filled up all the way cause if I do in fact fill it up all the way the water bugs climb into the filter so figured I wouldn't top it all the way off and let the filter hit the water for some cheap waterfall effect.

At a glance I'd say your minnows are golden shiners- definitely not suitable for a tank that size long term (they reach 14"). You can feed your water striders fruit flies (drop them onto the water surface).

Glad to see another native keeper!
