To plant or not to plant......

Aquatic Addiction
So I used to have about 6 onion plants, 4 amazon swords, and a bunch of java moss and corkscrew vals. As soon as I put Oscars in my tank, they got destroyed. I really like the look and just the sense of pride you get with a planted tank. How can I cohabitate live plants with a bunch of ruthless Cichlids? Any help would be appreciated.

If onion plants dont survive, I dont know much other will, maybe some java fern.

See they seem to pick on the broadleafs more. Do you think they would leave the anubias' alone? My tiger actually pulled an entire amazon out of the gravel. Thoughts?

Put some samples of each in, and see if the eat it. You can tie both to rocks to keep them planted ;) They might pick and eat at them at first, but leave them alone after they grow back. Ive heard many instances of this happening :P

Java ferns apparently are toxic. If the fish manages to eat them, I'll be surprised if they survive the apparent toxicity otherwise they will learn to leave that plant alone. With oscars, you cannot have any plants at all.;)
