I am looking for an algae eater to go in my 55g with brichardis and dafodil cichlids. I have been battling algae and now it's getting out of control, and I have been looking for an algae eater anyways. Any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance. Also, my dafodils have been breeding, so one that preferably wouldn't eat eggs or young, although I don't htink there are many that do and if so I think the parents wouldn't let them, but just in case. THanks again.

I have a Chaetostoma milesi (rubbernosed pleco) in with my brichardis. They seem to get along great...

if the cichlids are breeding they will probably beat the poo out of anything new that is introduced. you might want to look into preventative measures like planting the tank.

you should try a CAE, they are super fast, and can really stick up for themselves, i had to set a trap to catch mine out of my 38, for 3 weeks i tried with a net everytime he came out. but the trap worked.

so would a rubbernose pleco work then?

it should, just make sure he isnt getting beet up too bad, they arent fast and if getting chased will try and take refuge in a cave, and this will be a big nono with brichardi.

If you want a pleco i would suggest a bristlenose pleco instead of a rubbernose. BN plecos are much better at eating algae. I have a rubbernose in my african tank an dit isn't doing much for algae control. I added a BN and in 2 days all teh algae was gone.

if you are worried about algae get a CAE, hands down the best algae eater in the hobby. i have a 25 with a mean *** green sunfish and my CAE jumped the net tank thing into the green's tank, i decided to just see if he can survive, well in 2 days the glass is sparkling and he is still untouched by the green.

if you want the brichardi to breed i HIGHLY recommend not having an algae eater, algae will greatly promote breeding, and the fry will nibble on it as well as the adults when they feel hungry.
