Hi!

My new Eheim Classic 2215 canister is arriving today. I've never owned one before. I'm planning to use it on my 29gal, which I currently have 2 Whisper HOB filters on.

I think I read every thread I could find on these filters, but I do have one question. I'm just wondering, is there anything I should know about setting up this filter for the first time? Such as, things to watch out for or tips and tricks?

Any advice is appreciated. =)

word of advice, I dunno if I would have the 2215 running solo, might wanna back it up with a whisper (as much as I hate whispers). I myself am running a Magnum 350 on my 29, though I tend to over filter.

As far as set up, most canisters are not that difficult, just follow the pictures on the instructions that it comes with, pretty easy really. Only took me about 2 hours to get everything together, though I spent a good amount of that time trying to find a missing gasket. In all honesty, I think the tubing will be the most difficult part.

Why would you need to back up a 2215 with a whisper?
To tell you the truth you are the one that should have some backup with a mag 350.
Great polisher but bio media is nil.

The classic is probably the best filter ever made. Some have been running for 30+ years!

if you don't think the 2215 has enough flow get a 15 dollar powerhead for extra flow:)

The hardest part of setting up your filter will be priming it(filling it with water)
I would suggest sucking on the output tube to start the fill making sure both quick disconnects fully open.
Once the canister is full close the output QD and put your spraybar on and you should be good to go.
Open the QD back up and turn her on.
It will likely sound strange for a day or two, swooshing and what not.
But when all the air is out you will be amazed how quiet this thing is.

:sigh: 165 gph is the maximum rated, without media. Put media in there its gonna clog.

It may be a great filter, but like I said, lacking in power. And its not just circulation, its how much that filter can actually filter.

Mott, you think I don't know anything about my own filter?

had I not done anything, yeah, bio-media would be nill, but I bet I have more surface area with two Fil-Star Foam 30 pads in there than your friggen bio-wheel (should you have one), just that mine is quiet, like whisper quiet (or even quieter)

And Mott is right, for the first week or so, its gonna make a little noise, be a little loud, but just wait, its gonna quiet down so that to make sure its on you have to press your ear against it.

Eheim Classic is great filter youll love it make sure when you cut the tubing you leave some slack but not enough so it kinks also dont overtighten the 90 degree fitting for the suction line wouldnt hurt to lube the o-rings with some cooking oil or vaseline.

and rated gph doesnt tell the whole story especially with eheim filters these things can run for months with no maintenence and lose no noticeable flow. there is no better filter imo for the money and ive used most of the competitors.

Eheim and magnums are both awesome filters, I like my eheims for bio-fitration and will combo them with a magnum of some sort, with the water-polishing cartridge running or a small powerhead for water movement.
